When did ipad pro 12.9 come out? The new gorgeous iPad Pro is out! Best battery life

New iPad tablet Pro was officially unveiled at Apple's presentation on October 30th. The tablet turned out to be an exact copy of the model from the iOS 12.1 code, received support for facial recognition technology, which turned out to be even more advanced than in the flagship iPhone, a USB-C connector and a smart pen Apple Pencil second generation with gesture support.

main feature iPad Pro The thing that catches your eye when you first look at the tablet is, of course, its display. The stunning IPS panel with a diagonal of 11 and 12.9 inches and borders that tend to disappear evokes true admiration for the abilities of Apple engineers. But the main thing is that they managed to make the display absolutely symmetrical, despite the TrueDepth system, which is responsible for facial recognition.

The heart of the tablet is the eight-core A12X Bionic processor. It is 90% faster than the previous generation, which allows it to be considered one of the most productive “rocks” for personal computers.

Update: The official launch date for the 2018 iPad Pro is October 30, according to the Apple "Special Event" press invite. Moreover, there is growing evidence that new tablet will receive a USB-C port, and we also received interesting ideas about the sizes.

The iPad Pro 3 is Apple's next big update, and now the company has all but confirmed that we'll see the tablet on October 30th by sending out invitations to an event on that date.

The new iPad Pro should showcase thin bezel screens in two sizes, and leaks also suggest it will use the iPhone X's True Depth technology for Face ID.

Of course, at the beginning of the year we saw a new entry-level one with solutions aimed at the educational segment, but if you are looking for a more powerful tablet to replace the current one, you will soon get it.

Apple intends to make the iPad Pro series "laptop replacements" for as many users as possible, treating its Pro series tablets as if they were touchscreen MacBooks. With iOS 11 (and now iOS 12) and accompanying tablet-focused software, Apple is moving closer to that vision.

Regardless of the name, be it iPad Pro 2018 or iPad Pro 3, the new tablet will almost certainly remain expensive, and still won't be a laptop replacement for everyone, no matter how hard Apple tries to convince us of it.

Will there be a new iPad Pro? This seems like it could be an interesting change of concept. Here are the details we've gathered from all this time of leaks, rumors and speculation. We've also made our best guesses regarding price, release date, and various specifications/features.

Let's go!

  • What is this? Next flagship tablet iPad;
  • When to expect? Tuesday, October 30, 17:00 (Moscow time);
  • What is the price? Probably no less than $649 (39,000 rubles);

| iPadPRO 3 (2018): RELEASE DATE AND PRICES

The iPad Pro 3 launches on October 30th, as Apple has already sent out invitations to a special event on that date.

This is not surprising as we were expecting the tablet to be released soon, not least because the new iPad Pro has been spotted by the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission), indicating an imminent release of the device.

We don't know the launch date for the tablets yet, but whenever the iPad Pro series tablets come out, they are taxed at a high price. The iPad Pro 10.5 (the last in the series) launched with a price tag of $649 (R42,000), so we believe Apple will stick to similar pricing with the 9.7-inch models, the cheapest in the series.

| iPadPRO 3: DESIGN

  • Tiny panels around the screen;
  • There's no home button or headphone port;
  • The thinnest tabletApple;

One of the most recent iPad Pro 2018 leaks comes from a source that has been correct on Apple in the past and now claims that the upcoming tablet will be just 5.9mm thick and will lack a headphone port.

Additionally, we've currently seen a render purporting to show off the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 3, which you'll be able to see below.

Details include thin bezels and no home button or fingerprint scanner, so Face ID will be included. But the bezels in the render are still large enough to eliminate the need for a notch.

We still get a metal back panel, four speaker grilles and a single camera on the back, but something has changed - the Smart Connector has moved to the bottom (when the tablet is in portrait mode), there doesn't seem to be a 3.5mm jack anymore headphones (which corresponds to rumors), and on the right edge there is an unidentified button.

The source adds that it appears that the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) will come with dimensions of 280.6 x 215 x 5.8 mm (or 7.77 mm considering the camera bump on the back), making it smaller than the iPad Pro 12.9 (2017). The thickness is also in line with anecdotal rumors, so we're really looking forward to a very thin tablet.

We again got the same numbers from another source, which added that the iPad Pro 10.5 (2018) will measure 247.64 x 178.5 mm, making the new tablet smaller than its predecessor.

Another render has surfaced, this time showing the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) in a case from UAG, you can see it below.

The details - including the thin bezels and Face ID sensor - are consistent with the materials above. However, the fact that the tablet is in a case suggests it could be coming out very soon, as the case maker likely won't release a product or render until the device is ready.

| iPadPRO 3 (2018): DISPLAY

  • Models with a diagonal of 12.9 and 10.5 inches;
  • The 10.5-inch model can be replaced by an 11-inch one;

While the iPhone range is now highly classified, the iPad Pro 2018 continues to be leaked, with the edge-to-edge screen prominently featured.

Then again, it's still possible that Apple will put a notch on the tablet's display, especially since iOS 12 moves part of the status bar to the left edge, leaving empty space in the middle.

If Apple goes with an edge-to-edge screen design, the new iPads will be able to increase the display area, or keep the screen sizes to reduce the body size. This will come as a surprise to the sometimes bulky iPad Pro 12.9, and based on the information we've heard so far, shrinking the 12.9-inch tablet's body is exactly what Apple has done.

For the smaller 10.5-inch iPad, on the other hand, new design could mean a slight increase in size as we have seen a report claiming that it will get an 11-inch display.

However, since Apple just introduced a new size with the 10.5-inch model, we're not sure about further changes. We also expect the iPad Pro 3 to feature a True Tone display with a 120Hz refresh rate, just like its predecessor.

| iPadPRO 3: CAMERA AND BATTERY

We don't expect big changes in the camera department. Apple continues to stick with the combination of 12 MP and 7 MP on the back and front panels, respectively, adopting iPhone sensors 8, which is a serious overkill for a tablet, so it should continue to serve well for at least another year.

However, if the Face ID rumors are true, the tablet will likely feature a True Depth front-facing camera, much more similar to iPhone camera XS. It's still a 7-megapixel sensor, but with additional depth-sensing skills, making it a great solution for portrait mode (background blur).

In a relationship iPad battery Pro (2018) There's no news yet, but we'll be sure to include it in the article as soon as we hear something.

| iPadPRO 3: OS AND PERFORMANCE

A supply chain source claims that the iPad Pro 3 will use the new A11X Bionic chipset with an 8-core processor. Considering that iPhone smartphones XS are now powered by A12 Bionic chipsets, this seems unlikely.

Most likely, the 2018 iPad Pro will use either the A12 Bionic or something newer and better chipset that hasn't been announced yet - perhaps the A12X Bionic or A13.

Of course, the iPad Pro 3 will also definitely roll out iOS 12, which is available now. This will bring gesture controls to the tablet, as well as adding Siri shortcuts, group notifications, improvements in the augmented reality department, and more.

| iPadPRO 3: OTHER FEATURES

  • FaceID;
  • Four speakers;
  • USBC;

You're unlikely to hear Apple officially call its upcoming tablet the "Modern iPad," but that's the name found in the iOS 11.3 code.

"Modern iPad" doesn't sound like much, but the phrase "Modern iPhone" was used before the release of the iPhone X. The speculation is that the term could promise unusual innovations such as Face ID and a bezel-less display.

Indeed, the idea is that the new iPad Pro 2018 will allow users to unlock the device by simply looking at the tablet, without using their hands - a rumor we've heard more than once.

In fact, the tablet's Face ID setup interface was found in the iOS 12 beta for iPad. In the same beta we also found multi-user support for Face ID - a feature that will be much more useful on a tablet than on a phone.

We've also heard that Face ID on iPad will use the same image signal processor as the iPhone XS and will work in portrait and landscape orientations.

The same source claims that the iPad Pro 3 will be able to output 4K HDR on external display by using USB-C port, which is also rumored to be included in the tablet.

Additionally, the 2018 iPad Pro will likely feature a new version of the magnetic connector for connecting accessories like Apple's new Smart Keyboard.

AND a new version The Apple Pencil will apparently land alongside the iPad Pro 3.

Other existing features such as quad speakers and Smart Connector (each of which were found in leaked images) will return once again.

WHAT DO WE WANT TO SEE? Excellent, since the current iPad Pro models remain very expensive, although they lack some key functions

or characteristics of competitors. With that in mind, here's a list of the things we're most looking forward to from the iPad Pro 3.

WATER RESISTANCE

Apple has added water resistance to its smartphones, but this option has not yet reached the company's tablets and, although it is less necessary for tablets that are quite large, you would not use them in the rain.

But drinks are still spilled, and people still use tablets while cooking or at the pool, so knowing that the iPad Pro 3 can survive water would be reassuring, especially considering its price.

PRODUCTIVITY INCREASE

Apple has been consistently improving the performance potential of the iPad Pro, but it still can't match a laptop in most cases.

Moreover, lowering the price of accessories could help the tablet, along with further changes to iOS, which should be closer to a desktop operating system. Full software that can offer desktop quality, such as Photoshop, would also help. To some extent, this is beyond Apple's capabilities, but the company can strike a deal with developers or simply make the platform more attractive to them.

PRICE DROP?

The iPad Pro is an expensive tablet, and there's no getting around it, no matter what size you choose. Considering the amount of technology packed in, the value for money isn't bad, but it can be difficult to justify the cost, especially when there are cheaper tablets available, given that it's not a full laptop replacement.

So we'd like to see a price drop with the new iPad Pro 3, or at least (and most likely) the previous prices, along with an increase in memory and new features.

SHARP OLED DISPLAY

The 10.5- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 has a screen with a pixel density of 265 pixels per inch, which is quite good, while the overall screen quality is high.

But screens can be sharper on tablets, laptops and phones, so we'd like to see Apple bump up the resolution, especially since the iPad promises to be a prime candidate for 4K content.

And along with the new resolution, we would like to see new technology display, namely OLED. Apple has already used OLED panels for the iPhone X, so it's possible that the iPad Pro 3 could benefit.

FACE SCAN

Apple debuted Face ID on the iPhone X, allowing you to simply look at the phone to unlock it. This means that there is no longer a Home button, therefore opening up the possibility for a larger screen in the same body size. All this useful features, which we'd like to see with the iPad Pro 3.

BEST BATTERY LIFE

iPad Pro 2 tablets do not suffer from bad timing battery life, for now you use it mainly as a media device, but if you plan to use it as a laptop, counting on anything more than 6-7 hours is unnecessary.

That's still not bad, but an extra two hours would really help, so whether it's a larger battery or more efficient components and software, we wish Apple would add battery life to the iPad Pro 3.

NEW DESIGN

The iPad Pro has a thin, light and stylish design, but it's more of a design Apple tablets recent years, so we'd like a complete overhaul of the iPad Pro 3. Something new and exciting that might tempt those who are using older models and are hungry for an upgrade.

It could be a glass back, a huge screen, no bezels, or something new altogether. But if there's one thing Apple is great at, it's design, and we think it all depends on the task at hand.

Apple WWDC 2018 was earlier this year without mention of the 2018 iPad Pro models, and although the launch was not expected, it has already passed more than a year since Apple updated its professional tablet line.

The developer conference provided several hints as to what might be next in iOS 12, while recent leaks, rumors and patent filings also offer clues as to Apple's next steps.

New iPad Pro 2018: Latest rumors, news and leaks

Just days before Apple's biggest event yet on September 12, the iPad Pro has appeared in some pretty compelling leaked images. This gave us an idea that there may be a new iPad coming next week.

The following photos come to us via MySmartPrice and appear to be based on CAD documents that have been leaked online.

As you can see, the traditional Home button is gone - and will almost certainly be replaced by Apple's Face ID technology - and the 3.5mm headphone jack is also missing, which shouldn't surprise us.

The images are accompanied by a video, which you can watch above, presumably showing off the new 12.9-inch iPad. It is expected to join the smaller 11-inch model to update Apple's 2018 iPad Pro.

Specs, features and design for iPad Pro 2018

In recent years beta software Apple has served as a valuable key to future products, and the recently released beta version of iOS 12 is no different in this regard. We've seen hints several times that the next-generation iPad will have a TrueDepth HD camera, which is necessary to add Face ID to the flagship tablet.

Developer Steve Troughton-Smith discovered that AvatarKit came to the iPad as part of the latest beta. This tool will include the new Memoji in iOS 12. Of course Hardware is still required, but it seems more likely that the technology will make it to the next iPad Pro based on this evidence.

Developer Guilherme Rambo, noted for his eagle eye in such matters, also noticed the presence of Face ID settings hiding in the iOS 12 beta on his iPad Pro. A Face ID screen appears, which for obvious reasons cannot be done. However, this is a pretty clear indication that Apple can expect to launch the upcoming iPad Pro with biometric security technology.

New hardware and camera in 2018 iPad Pro

If we follow tradition, we expect the iPad Pro 2019 to include an improved version of the A11 Bionic chip that appeared in the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. We expect it to be called the A11X Bionic. Recent rumors suggested that it will be eight-core, compared to the six-core A11 processor in the iPhone X.

Cameras haven't always been the focus of the iPad Pro, but given that Apple is going into AR, there's a chance the company will step up the real picture. Recent iPad Pro releases have included a 12-megapixel rear camera with a 7-megapixel one. Perhaps there will be a small update here too.

iPad Pro 2018 screen

It looks like Apple has installed 12.9-inch and 10.5-inch panels as optimal size for the iPad Pro, so we expect the pair of new models to retain these specifications. However, Apple may change this resolution slightly. The iPad Pro currently has 265 pixels per inch with 2224 x 1668 (10.5 inches) and 2732 x 2048 (12.9 inches).

Considering that the company is going to conquer 4K content through iTunes Store, could he consider a full 4K panel that supports HDR? An OLED screen might be on the list of requests for iPad Pro fans, but given the potential impact on price, as well as current shortages, we'd say it could only be a dream.

In early August, the iOS 12 beta shows evidence that the next iPad Pro will arrive with ultra-thin bezels, Face ID, no Home button, and no notch.

As we mentioned above, previous rumors have indicated that the iPad 2018 iPad could feature a notch on the display to accommodate sensors and a front-facing camera. However, if Apple opts for thinner bezels (rather than non-existent ones), the touch matrix could perhaps do so without the need for a notch on the display.

While it could be argued that this is not the basis for a new product, other versions of the iPad are appearing with thicker bezels and a Home button in the same iOS 12 beta. You can see them for yourself.

Ahead of its release comes a rumor that the new iPad Pro 2018 could bring a drastic change to how the device charges. Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple plans to switch from Lightning to USB-C. We can easily imagine this, and most likely we will find out on Wednesday, September 12th.

iPad Pro 2018 release date

Quite often with Apple products we can point to certification times of the year when it likes to update its products, but there is no real picture with the iPad Pro. Here's how Apple released its products:

  • Original iPad Pro 12.9-inch – November 2015
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch – March 2016
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation) and iPad Pro 10.5-inch – June 2017

Apple has already released a new version of its simpler 9.7-inch iPad this year, with no sign of a new iPad Pro. Apple also failed to announce new iPad Pro hardware at its recent WWDC event in June.

iPad Pro price (2018)

The iPad Pro will cost twice as much as the regular 9.7-inch iPad, and that's before you shell out for the Apple Pencil accessory.

The 10.5-inch model sells from 48 thousand rubles, and with a 12.9-inch display it costs 57 thousand rubles. In all likelihood, Apple will maintain 2018 prices, but may even increase them if the tablet gets an iPhone X-style design with Face ID technology.

Apple Pencil 2

The 2018 iPad Pro is rumored to launch alongside the Apple Pencil 2, a stylus designed with artists and creative ideas in mind. Recent rumors have suggested that the new Pencil will be easier to connect to the iPad (perhaps via a magnetic clip), while patent filings have shown Apple working on a new tip with the addition of an eraser.

New iPad Pro concepts

With so little information, fans have entered into their own ideas about the direction the next iPad Pro should take.

One such concept from designer Álvaro Pabesio envisions a next-generation tablet with an 11.9-inch display and no home button.

Of course, Face ID is present in the concept and also has dual rear cameras to give your photography the functionality of today's high-end iPhones.

The designer also reimagined the tablet's multitasking functionality, allowing it to run iPhone apps alongside full-screen iPad apps.

Oktyabrskaya Apple presentation finally took place. Frankly, we didn’t see a lot of new products. The brightest spot of the “event” was the release of new iPad models Pro 2018, which simply captivated everyone with their design. A review of the tablets is below the cut with a detailed discussion of the distinctive features.

iPad Pro 2018 review

Design

After introducing new ones with an edge-to-edge screen, Cupertino decided to implement a similar idea on the iPad. Thus, instead of a 10.5-inch iPad, it turned out to be 11-inch due to a thinner frame around the perimeter. And the 12.9-inch iPad retained its screen size, but slightly decreased in body dimensions, which is why it became a little lighter (by 25 percent). Both models have the same thickness of 5.9mm, making them the thinnest iPads yet.

As for the display, both models have LCD panels with curved corners; OLED has not yet been adopted. Apple calls them Liquid Retina displays, which is exactly the same display on the iPhone Xr. The manufacturer assures us that this is the brightest and most saturated display among the iPad.

Since there is now a very thin bezel around the perimeter, there is no room left for the HOME button. Accordingly, Touch ID technology is not provided here. And, as you may have guessed, new versions of the iPad Pro have Face ID technology, which was implemented last year in the iPhone X. Data protection is now implemented by scanning your face. And it doesn’t matter at all how you hold the tablet - vertically or horizontally. Face ID works in any position.

A few words about the case. It's not glass. And this will make many people happy, since the glass in the hand sometimes feels very uncomfortable due to slipping. The body is aluminum, which means technology wireless charging not implemented. An important detail is the presence of 102 tiny magnets inside the case, which help to pair with the tablet accessories, such as the Smart Keyboard and the new Apple Pencil.

BY

The default on the new iPad Pro is new platform iOS 12. Since there is no longer a HOME button, new brutal controls have been implemented. Swiping from the bottom will give you access to the App Dock, keep scrolling and you'll be taken to the multitasking interface. Swipe from the top right of the screen and you'll get Control Center. Pulling down from the top or middle left top spot will drop down the notification center. Of course, the new iPads have Split View and Slide Over modes, which allow you to work side-by-side with several applications at once.

CPU

Inside the tablets there is an updated chip - Apple A12X Bionic (four performance cores and four efficiency cores). As part of a demonstration of its power, Apple showed a working full-scale version at the presentation Adobe Photoshop, optimized for touch interface. The application will be available to users in 2019. There is also a seven-core GPU, delivering twice the graphics performance.

The Lightning port at the bottom of the tablet has now been replaced with USB Type-C. This gives free rein to the use of new accessories. Apple assured that with via USB Type-C can be used to connect external monitors and connect to professional equipment such as cameras. Also, using this port, users will be able to charge their iPhone from the iPad and transfer data between devices.

Battery life is about 10 hours.

Memory

There will be several options available for users to choose from in terms of internal storage capacity: 64 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. The last option is very impressive, but you need to understand that it will cost a pretty penny.

Camera

They almost forgot about the cameras. We usually talk about them more as part of a phone review. But they are also in demand on tablets. So, the two new iPads 2018 received a 12 MP main camera with an F1.8 aperture. Don't rush to conclude that we saw the same thing on the 2017 iPad. New models received Smart HDR mode. Front-facing TrueDepth camera with portrait mode, supports Animoji and Memoji on iPad.

Apple Pencil

The iPad stylus has also been updated. But the new version of the Apple Pencil will be compatible exclusively with the iPad Pro 2018. The “pencil” is connected magnetically to the tablet and is also charged. No more wires. If you remember old version The Apple Pencil was charged via a connection to the Lightning port. Since new versions of tablets do not have this port, the old Apple Pencil cannot be used with the new tablet. You can also now easily and comfortably use the keyboard, which will connect magnetically to the tablet.

Price and release date

Pre-orders for the new 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2018 have already started. On November 7, the company begins official sales of new tablets. Pricing starts at $799 for the 11-inch version and $999 for the 12.9-inch version. The maximum price tag for the smaller brother is $1,549, the older one is $1,749. With LTE support you will have to add another 150 bucks.
