Download and install a program to create a boot menu, such as Longtion AutoRun. To download the program, go to the developer's website http://www.longtion.com/. This program allows you to work with templates, manage and test shells, which makes it possible to speed up development. The program has a clear interface and a construction wizard - this will allow a non-professional to work with it. There are two ways to create a boot menu. If this is your first time creating a menu, select the Create Wizard. Select the File menu and click the Wizard command. Place all the files that you want to burn to disk in one folder and specify this folder in the first window of the wizard.

Click Next to continue creating the boot menu. Click the “Configure” button, select the desired design for your menu, set the font and background colors. In the Form icon field, click the Select button and select an image file from your computer to set as the disk icon. In the next field, select the sound file that will accompany the opening of the disc. Next, set the colors and size for the boot menu using the corresponding buttons. Go to the Splash screen tab, in this tab select the image that will open as the welcome screen of your disk. Set the time for which it will be shown on the screen. Go to the next tab to design the boot menu of the disk. Select Menu Settings, then Text and Agreement Settings. In the next tab, select security settings.

Click the "Next" button and set the link settings. For example, make links to the installation files that are located on your disk so that you can immediately begin installing a particular program from the menu. In the next tab, create shortcuts and buttons for your boot menu, click the “Next” button. In this tab you can test your boot menu using the Save and test button. After viewing the result, you can return to any of the steps and the boot menu.

Register the program to be able to use the templates to create a boot menu and program after the 30-day trial period. To make a boot menu using a template, click on one of the template icons on the program toolbar. A template will open in the window on the right, available for modification. Click on a specific element to edit it. Next, click the “Save” button.

About a year ago, a small free program appeared on my list of programs that allows you to create multi-level drop-down menus for websites.

The menus in it were made according to one of the given templates, and the user, in fact, could only change the fill and text colors.

It seemed to me that I could find a better free application, but it turned out that the free one I found turned out to be the best :)

I would like to dedicate today’s article to one of our regular readers - Umbrek! After all, it was thanks to him that I carried out a fairly global “shovelling” of the Internet in order to find the best free program for creating a menu for a website.

What came of it - judge for yourself... :)

Comparison with a paid analogue

A similar result can be achieved using JavaScript. This approach is offered to us by the paid program AllWebMenus:

The undoubted advantage of a paid competitor is that with its help we can greatly diversify our menu due to the ability to completely customize all its elements.

However, there is one rather significant disadvantage in creating navigation using JavaScript! For some users, scripts are automatically blocked, which means it is impossible to use such a menu in their browser!

Therefore, the approach to creating navigation using pure CSS, at least to me, seems more successful...

To be fair, it is worth noting that CSS Menu Generator also has a paid PRO version, for which you need to pay no less than $19.

For this money, we will be able to work with background images for buttons in visual mode, as well as add the necessary icons to the same buttons.

And yes! We will receive the right to use the program for commercial purposes :).

Getting started with the program for creating a website menu

To get started with CSS Menu Generator, we will need to install the program. To do this, run the installer from the downloaded archive and go through the simple installation procedure by clicking the “Next” button.

Saving a finished menu

In the meantime, let's move on to the third tab of the program - “3) Get the Files”:

This tab is used to save our menu into finished files. Here again we have three sections, the first of which allows you to save the menu.

Essentially, everything that we configured with you in the previous tabs is saved in three separate files:

1. csshover2.htc- a patch file for the correct operation of the resulting menu in Internet Explorer 6;
2. style.css- a style sheet that provides the design of our menu;
3. index.html- a ready-made HTML document containing the menu itself.

To save files, on the right side of the tab, which is essentially Explorer, you need to specify the output folder, and then click the “Export Files to Selected Folder” button.

However, I would advise you to wait a little while saving and consider the two additional sections of this tab.

Instructions for implementing a ready-made menu on the site

The first one is “Template Help Info”:

It contains instructions for posting your menu on the site. Unfortunately, the instructions are in English, so I will give a brief summary of them, which I hope will be useful to you.

So, for the created menu to work you will need:

1. Upload files csshover2.htc And style.css to the root directory of your site. If the file style.css already exists, you will need to copy its contents and add it to the contents of the existing file.
2. Open file index.html using Notepad and copy from it - tags and everything that is between the inscriptions "" And "».
3. Open file with Notepad index.html your site and paste -tags in the section “ ", and the block with the menu to the desired place in the body of your page, and then save all changes.

Changing the encoding to display Cyrillic

Let's move on to the third section - “HTML/CSS Code”:

If you already have a ready-made website on which you need to install a menu, then you do not necessarily need to save all the above files to your computer.

In this section you can copy all the necessary data directly from the code of the generated files!

Here it is worth mentioning our inconsistency in the display of Russian letters.

In the screenshot above you can see the reason for this shortcoming. The “charset>” attribute, which is responsible for the page encoding, must contain the value windows-1251!

If your site has a different encoding installed or the required META tag is missing altogether, copy it from the code.

If you have at least a little knowledge of CSS, then in this section you can also make the adjustments you need to the style sheet, which is located on the “CSS Code” tab.

What is also noteworthy is that each tab has “Copy to Clipboard” and “Save File” buttons, which allows you to copy selected fragments or save only individual files entirely.

Advantages and disadvantages of the program

• the ability to create multi-level drop-down menus;
• vertical and horizontal menu orientation to choose from;
• the ability to change the color design of the menu;
• presence of a result preview window;
• Direct access to menu files without having to save anything.

• small number of templates;
• the FREE version does not have the ability to add background images and icons;
• It’s not entirely convenient to work with the Cyrillic alphabet.

conclusions

It’s difficult to make an unambiguous verdict... On the one hand, CSS Menu Generator has in its arsenal everything you need to create high-quality multi-level CSS menus for a website.

But on the other hand, the developer would do well to think a little about the users who are given very few templates available.

Naturally, if you have knowledge in the field of cascading style sheets, then you can easily diversify the resulting menu manually. But for a “teapot” it would be possible to create more design options, IMHO :).

Moreover, it still costs $19 (if you want to get a paid version with two additional templates and the ability to work with images)!

However, as they say, without fish there is only cancer. I haven’t come across a better free program for creating a menu for a website.

Therefore, if you need to quickly create site navigation, then CSS Menu Generator is exactly the tool that will help you do this in the shortest possible time and without unnecessary problems!

Today I’ll tell you about a couple of programs with which you can quickly create any DVD menu without any special knowledge. If you thought it was difficult, then I can only say that you are deeply mistaken. The programs described below will make the process of creating a DVD menu easy and interesting! Now you can make your own collections of your favorite movies with easy navigation through fragments, which is very important when watching DVDs on a regular DVD player.

The developers of Super DVD Creator have built three utilities into the program:

1. Converter video files to VOB format to create movie fragments. I would like to emphasize that you can convert existing VOB files - useful if you want to reduce the size of the movie or trim it.

Using this program, anyone can create one DVD image with all the relevant functions from any video or series of videos.

The set of features of the DVDStyler program primarily includes the ability to create an interactive menu through which the user gains access to the contents of the disc. For ease of use, the program itself has the ability to burn with a ready-made menu.

Simplicity of work is ensured by the fact that the user immediately has several templates to choose from, from which he selects the most suitable one. With their help, you can quickly create your own menu for the disc.

And today I want to talk about menu planning programs.

I must say, the choice is small. If only a kind person could be found and write the perfect program - so that it would store recipes, count the cost of dinner and warn about calories. And it itself gave out a list of dishes for the whole week, and at the same time printed out a list of groceries. Cook, okay, I agree myself.

But until a good person is found, we will choose from what is available. So, here are the results of my searches.

Programs for creating menus.

1. Culinary recipes are a very serious program. Contains 12,000 ready-made recipes, can calculate the cost of dishes and take into account the products in your refrigerator. It sorts by different criteria, produces fields calculated using formulas (just like Excel) And all this can be automated. Unless she cooks herself. Well, I don’t know... To be honest, I opened it, got scared and closed it. I don’t need so many functions, I’d like to cook a family dinner. However, if you dig around, you can probably customize only the most necessary things for yourself.
2. Cooking notebook - this program is not so much for creating menus as for recording and storing recipes. It copes well with this simple function. Everything is convenient and clear - sections, subsections, composition, preparation, notes. There is a database search. You can insert pictures.
3. Menu planning is a fun program for those watching their weight. Contains three windows - products, food editor and menu. The first already has a ready-made database of products indicating the energy value (you can also add your own), from which the menu is supposed to be compiled. In the second, dishes are made from the specified products. In the third, the menu is assembled. A little manipulation - and you have not just a menu, but an indication of the number of calories! The only pity is that the program is paid (3,500 rubles). Although, there is also a free version, slightly limited in functionality.
4. Simple Cookbook is the simplest program for storing recipes, literally for writing on the run. You can only create categories, place recipes in them, edit and print. And no troubles for you.
5. Cooking Notes is a nice little program with a cozy blue interface. It has its own database of recipes, you can add/change/delete. Good search. Dishes can be rated or marked as favorites. You can decorate the recipe with a picture and provide a link.
6. Culinary recipe manager - cataloging recipes, searching and selecting recipes by ingredients, cooking time, complexity, etc. Paid program, costs 300 rubles.

In addition to all of the above, you can use the Evernote service to store culinary recipes - all you need to do is re-photograph all your magazine clippings and notes. I wrote more about this unique service in the article

You won’t believe it, but a kind person was found :) Our reader Anastasia (she is a programmer) herself wrote a program that solves almost all the tasks listed at the beginning of the post - Menu planning. I have already tested her service a little - and I really liked it! Nice design and convenient controls, it can do everything, but nothing superfluous. Free. Among the possibilities:

• collecting and storing your own recipes
• collection of recipes collected by other users
• convenient search by ingredients, types of dishes, cooking time
• menu planning - and the list of products is immediately displayed in the adjacent column. You can even choose how many servings you want to make, and the quantities will be indicated based on that. And under the list of products there is a very prudent “Print” button.

There’s absolutely nothing to complain about :) True, I don’t count calories and cost yet, but the author continues to work on it, and it’s quite possible that such a function will appear. My only wish is - oh, but if the menu block consisted of 7 days, so that you can plan for a week at once, and see before your eyes that on Monday we have this and that, and on Tuesday this is impossible Is it possible to build something similar?
