Apple ID was hacked and iPhone was blocked - what to do? IPhone lost mode: enabling and disabling iPhone lost mode what does it mean

Lost your brand new iPhone as a result of theft? Don’t rush to get upset, because you can install a block on your device through the iCloud service. Using the ID number, you can easily log in to the cloud.

Next you will need to go to the iPhone search thread. By clicking on the drop-down list, you need to select an iOS device - iPhone or iPad. The location of the item will be displayed on the map as a green dot. If this is exactly the case, consider yourself lucky. The device is turned on and registered on the network. If the dot is red, the device has been offline for at least 12 hours.

If the Lost Mode window pops up, enter the password characters. If it was set earlier, the system will automatically install it on the iPhone.

If the missing device contains valuable or very personal information, you can erase it. For this purpose, resort to a special section. But you shouldn’t rush to click, because once the operation is completed, you won’t be able to find the item on the map. Here act depending on your goals.

Before you go out with your iOS device for the first time, you need to set the settings correctly. And you should start by activating the search option. It is placed along the trajectory iOS settings– iCloud.

There is also a section for the latest geolocation. Make sure it is active. After this, even when it is turned off, it will be possible to determine the current geographic location of the device.

Try to remember the password characters for the ID number and always keep them close to your phone. But if something suddenly happens that you forget it, immediately go to the Apple company’s online resource. There you will have to answer the questions and change the symbols to new ones.

Activate the search option

It’s great if you have access to setting the block via Touch ID. Then you can eliminate restrictions by fingerprinting, that is, using fingerprints.

Activating password symbols is easy, you need to go through the following sections: settings - password - password protection - go to the option to enable the password.

You can also erase information by entering the wrong characters ten times.

Turn on lost mode

  • Via iCloud from a PC/laptop with a network connection.
  • From another iOS device.

You can enable lost mode in the web or iOS application on the network. It is only possible for devices running OS 5.0 and older. But for flashing older versions of iPhones, this option is not available.

From any PC/laptop, go to the “cloud” resource on the network, and then to the iPhone search section. Next you need to sign in with your Apple account. It is indicated in the “cloud” settings in the accounts sub-item.

Next, in the menu of my devices (at the top in the central part), a device variation is selected. In the information window, you need to click on the lost section. Then you need to enter a four-character password twice to set the block.

Afterwards it is driven in phone number, where to call to return the phone and click next. The number will be displayed on the display on which the unit is located. If your device is lost or stolen and you can make calls from it, you can call the number you specified from its locked display.

  • The iPhone has a password block.
  • Your SMS will appear on the display with the unit.
  • The display will show a number where you can make a call even from a smartphone with a unit.
  • In the window with a picture of the device you can find a message about the lost mode.
  • An SMS will be sent to the e-mail used when registering the ID number to enable the lost option on the device.
  • The activation block on the device will turn on.
  • When you connect your iPhone to iTunes, a warning SMS will pop up informing you that the mode has been enabled, and that the system will block all actions with the device. The blocking will remain in effect until you remove it.

If the device is not connected to the network during the operation in question, an activation request will pop up in the cloud this mode. If you connect to the network, the request is instantly implemented.

But not only iCloud can help you, you can resort to another gadget to complete the process. One important condition is that you need a network, just like the way to lock an iPhone via iCloud.

To apply a block to a stolen iPhone, you need to launch the search application and log into your Apple account by entering your username and password characters. You should select the gadget on which you want to place a block and click on the action subsection. Next, click on Lost Mode and turn it on.

Enter the characters of the password, phone number, SMS text and click on the “Done” element. A lock symbol will appear in the all devices section. The results for the device will be 100% the same as when interacting with the “cloud”.

Disable lost mode

This operation is much simpler than turning it on. Moreover, three methods are available:

  • Directly from the device with the block.
  • From the cloud in the browser.
  • From the search menu in iOS.

The simplest method of disconnecting is directly from the device with the block. You just need to enter the correct characters for the lock password. After this, the block will be removed from the device, and the lost mode will become inactive.

To turn it off via the “cloud” you need to do almost 100% identical steps as when turning it on. In the my devices section, select a device and click on the lost mode sub-item. Next, click on the line to exit this mode. The request is confirmed.

As a result, the lost option will be disabled, and the SMS and phone number will disappear from the screen with the block. But the password characters will not be reset. To remove the block from the device, you will need to enter a password, after which it will be set as the iPhone lock code. You can disable the mode from the search software on another iOS device. The steps will be similar.

The lost option is a great feature, but it can also become a problem for the iPhone owner. It turns out that a locked device does not allow you to change the password remotely. That is, if the lock password characters were specified in the device settings, but they were accidentally forgotten, it is not possible to disable the emergency mode. But you can go a little further than the lock screen.

In such a situation, a recovery operation from Recovery Mode or DFU mode will help out. Entering the device into both modes is not difficult. iTunes will recognize the gadget and prompt you to perform the operation. Once the process is complete, set the values for the gadget as new. But this is provided that you are its legal owner and have an ID account from which the lost mode was activated.

Apple tablets have been leading the list of the most frequently stolen “tablets” for several years now, and this is understandable. iPads are not cheap and are very popular, which means that it is not difficult for a fraudster to find a client for a stolen device and get good money for it.

Unfortunately, fans of i-techniques are often even happy to purchase a gadget in good condition with the coveted “apple” on board and at a significant discount compared to the store price, and therefore they don’t even think about the fact that the device could be stolen, or they think about, but do not care much about the victim.

In order to at least slightly reduce the number of cases of theft of its products, Apple came up with a special option “Find iPad” (there is a similar one on i-smartphones, only it is called “Find iPhone”, and also on iPods - called, of course, “Find iPod”), with with which you can block a stolen device and thus make it completely useless for a fraudster.

Managing the “Find iPad” option is very simple; to enable it, the user needs to:

To disable the option, turn off the “Find iPad” slider; again, you will need to provide a password for your unique Apple ID.

Find My iPad features

The “Find iPad” option is available to all mobile i-devices running iOS 5.0 and higher. The main function of this option is “Lost Mode”, which the user can activate when he believes that the tablet has been stolen. In the moment iPad activation is blocked, and the person who stole it can no longer do anything with it, except look at the screen of the device, which will display a message from the owner - for example, “This iPad has been lost. To return it, call the number 8-ХХХ-ХХХ-ХХ-ХХ.”

How to lock your iPad using Lost Mode? Very simple! To activate it you only need a PC with internet access:

All! As soon as you click "Done" in the last window, "Lost Mode" will be activated, and the email that was specified when Apple registration ID, a message will be sent indicating the activation of this mode.

Another interesting feature of the “Find iPad” option is “Play sound”, it is activated in the same iCloud personal account, the “button” to enable it is located to the left of the “button” for activating the lost mode. This feature will be great for absent-minded people who constantly forget where they left their tablet. When you activate “Play Sound,” the iPad will begin to make a very loud, piercing sound and it won’t be difficult to find it.

How to disable Lost Mode?

Let's say you were lucky and the device was returned, then the question arises - how to disable the lost mode and make the device unlocked. If you have not forgotten the code specified when activating the mode, no problems will arise. You can use both the iCloud.com website and the tablet itself to disable it.

To exit Lost Mode via the cloud site:

It is much more convenient to disable lost mode from the tablet itself - you just need to enter the passcode.

What to do if scammers have blocked your tablet using Find My iPad?

The “Find iPad” option is undoubtedly very convenient and, I must say, with its advent the number of thefts of Apple equipment has decreased, but a new type of fraud has flourished based on this opportunity.

How do scammers activate Lost Mode?

Attackers cunningly find out the victim's Apple ID parameters, log into the iCloud account, activate Lost Mode, and the user suddenly finds his iPad locked. And on the tablet screen there is a message from the scammer in the style - “Do you want to unlock your device? Call us, we’ll make an agreement” and his contacts.

The first reaction is panic, the second is what, maybe, really, call and pay, because the tablet is expensive, and the data on it is important... However, cooperation with an attacker is a risky business, because there is a guarantee that after you pay, The iPad will be unlocked, no - after all, there are no honest scammers.

Disabling lost mode activated by scammers: pitfalls

Are you asking if there is another way? We answer - yes! It consists of resetting the iPad in recovery mode via iTunes. However, keep in mind that when an i-device is restored through iTunes in lost mode, the so-called activation lock is turned on.

That is, When iTunes finishes restoring, Lost Mode will turn off, but Activation Lock will turn on instead.

To disable this blocking, you will need to initial setup iPad (the initial setup menu will automatically appear on the device screen after recovery), enter a password for the Apple ID, and after entering it, you can again fully own the tablet.

Tell me, why such difficulties? These are not difficulties, but high-quality protection, because if with using iTunes it was possible to reset the lost mode without consequences such as blocking activation, it would not have cost a thief anything to pull it off, but protection with using Apple ID makes such a trick impossible (unless, of course, you come across a very tough thief who can steal both the device and hack the Apple ID).

And one more digression - before starting the recovery procedure, make sure that your Apple ID password is the same. After all, it is possible that attackers hacked your email, which was specified during registration, and changed your password.

Try logging into your iCloud.com account, if it works, it means the password is the same. However, you still need to change it just in case, but before modifying the Apple ID access code, first change the email password specified when registering it - extra insurance has never hurt anyone.

Disabling lost mode activated by scammers: instructions for action

So, here’s what you need to do if scammers have blocked your iPad:

By the way! iTunes recovery mode will help not only if scammers have blocked your Apple iPad and you don't know what to do. This method is also an excellent answer to the question of how to unlock an iPad if you forgot set password when Lost Mode is activated. This happens - the device was stolen, the user turned on the lost mode, time passed, no one returned the tablet, and then suddenly it was found, and the user no longer remembers the installed code.

Consequences of restoring an iPad via iTunes

You, of course, understand that with such a “hard” recovery using iTunes, all data from the tablet will be deleted, but if you really store it on it important information, you have, of course, created backups before and with the same initial setup, you will have the option to restore the iPad as new or restore data from an iCloud/iTunes copy.

Why you shouldn't brute-force your code

Many users who did not bother to create a backup in time, not wanting to lose all the data after the second step of the above instructions, go to iCloud.com, disable the lost mode, and then try to brute force the unlock code specified by the attacker. We do not recommend doing this. After the 6th unsuccessful attempt, the tablet will be blocked for a minute, after the next unsuccessful attempt - for an even longer time, after 10 errors, it will be blocked completely. You can start brute force again only by resetting the password counter via iTunes, which will take quite a bit of time. After that you can make 10 more attempts, then you will have to reset the counter again.

A precaution that will save a lot of time and valuable data

And in the end - an interesting fact - the described type of fraud with the activation of the lost mode is not at all scary for those who have installed the screen unlock code. Remember, in the instructions for enabling the mode, we wrote that if you use this code, will it be automatically specified as the code to turn off the lost mode? Thus, it turns out that the fraudster will not be asked to enter new code, and the situation will turn out to be very funny - the attacker, of course, will block your gadget, but only with a password that is well known to you.

Let's summarize

The “Find iPad” option perfectly protects the tablet from attacks by “mobile” thieves, but it attracts another category of scammers. However, users who use a screen unlock code are reliably protected from it. Although, even if you do not use such a password, you still have the opportunity to disable the lost mode enabled by the attackers if you still have access to your Apple ID and the email used to change it. Well, as a last resort, there is always a cordial support service from the Apple giant - the main thing is that you have a box and a receipt that will prove that the device belongs to you.

Recently, quite a lot of users have started contacting me with the same problem - hacking Apple ID account and blocking iPhone for extortion purposes.

The problem is real and, if it occurs, it turns your iPhone into a brick. Such cases arise both due to the stupidity of the iPhone owners themselves, and without their participation, which in itself is very offensive.

I’ll tell you why this happens and what to do in this situation right now! Forewarned is forearmed!

How scammers work

Imagine that on VKontakte you receive a message from one of your friends of this kind: “ Max, hello! Lost my iPhone. We urgently need your help! Enter my Apple ID data (supplied) into your iPhone in Settings > iCloud and look on the map in Find iPhone where it is located».

Something like this... And you know, many fall for this scam and really lead into Settings > iCloud someone else's account! STOP! Do not do that!

The message sent may change its “appearance”, but the essence remains the same - attackers, under any pretext, ask you to enter someone else's Apple ID into your phone.

Here are a couple of comments I received the other day:

On behalf of a friend they wrote to VK supposedly to help, they had to log out of their iCloud and log in through another one. I did so, then they told me to go to find my iPhone and my phone turned off. I turned it on and it started asking me for my apple id and password. But I didn't have one. It turned out to be scammers who extort money for unlocking! Will tech support be able to unblock it? iPhone 6, receipts available, got it at the store

I have the following problem: they wrote to me at social network VKontakte on behalf of a friend who allegedly lost her phone and asks to log into her iCloud through my iPhone. I did this because I trusted this person. After that, my phone turned off and it turned out that the hacker had hacked my friend’s VKontakte account and my iCloud. As a result, my phone is locked and I don’t know the hacker’s password, but mine is reported as incorrect. Please help me please. Where can I go?

Would you believe this message or would you double-check first? Write in the comments!

What happens after this? This bad person, while on the website icloud.com, sees that your iPhone has appeared on his devices.

After that the reptile activates Lost Mode and your phone goes into a locked state, in which it will remain until you enter the unlock code (set by the attacker).

At the same time, a message will usually appear on your iPhone screen, prompting you to contact the appropriate email address (similar to something close to Apple, for example here is one - [email protected]).

When you try to send an unlock request, the following response will automatically be sent to your e-mail:

Your device is locked. To receive the unlock code for your device, transfer 1,500 rubles to QIWI Wallet: +7-965-863-5616
After payment, attach a receipt (screenshot) and we will send you a password for your device.

12 hours are allotted for payment. Otherwise, your device will be locked without password recovery.

I will pay for the “dubious services” of scammers I do not advise. To get started, it’s better to try the steps described below.

By the way! You don’t have to try to reflash, reset settings, or even . None of these methods will help you bypass iCloud Activation Lock.

Hacking Apple ID via e-mail

There is another type of theft Apple accounts ID. As you probably remember, an Apple ID is nothing more than an e-mail address. So, if attackers guess your password and take over your e-mail box, they can easily get to your account Apple.

To do this, they will simply reset the password for your Apple ID (as written in these instructions), and then, as in the paragraph above, they will lock your iPhone.

Did you get the moral? ... Passwords must be set to normal! Everywhere!

And yet, we have not yet solved the problem with Apple ID hacking and iPhone locking. I’ll tell you right now what to do if you find yourself in such a situation.

What to do when your Apple ID is hacked

Starting with iOS 7, Apple has implemented iPhone security new feature iCloud Activation Lock. In order to protect the personal data of users in the event of a device theft, it is now possible to remotely block devices or delete all data on them.

Unfortunately this iOS feature quite often turns against ordinary users. Here is a step-by-step list of actions that I would take if such a situation arose.

STEP 1 - Try to regain control of your Apple ID. This STEP can help you ONLY when, IF you yourself NOT ENTERED in iCloud Settings ANOTHER APPLE ID DATA. If you have entered it, go to STEP 2.

To regain control of your Apple ID, you need to reset your password. You can do this on the official website at: https://iforgot.apple.com. There is information about this on my website.

If you specified a backup mailbox when registering your Apple ID Email, That a password reset email will be sent to him. After recovering your Apple ID password, you can go to icloud.com and turn off Lost Mode in Find My iPhone..

If you managed to complete the steps described above, then congratulations. After you've turned off Lost Mode, your phone likely still requires a numeric password to unlock it.

At the same time, you probably cannot connect to Wi-Fi either. In this situation, there is only one way out - Restore iPhone in iTunes using DFU () mode.

STEP 2 - If the actions in the previous step did not lead to anything, then you cannot do it on your own. You will have to ask for help from the OFFICIAL APPLE SUPPORT SERVICE.

To do this, just make one phone call to the number 495 580-95-57 (Russia). If you are not in Russia, but still in the CIS, then here I have described in detail how you can inexpensively call Russian service support.

ATTENTION!!! In order for an Apple support engineer to deign to help you, you will need “proof” that the phone is really yours. You won’t be able to chat him up over the phone (although there was one case)…

The real proof for him is the sales receipt from the store, which you kept all this time and did not throw away. You didn't throw it away, did you? So? ... If suddenly the check is lost or it was not there initially, go to STEP 3.

In any case, contact support and explain the situation to them. I heard about one friend of a friend who called the specified number five times and “begged with tears” to have the changed password for her Apple ID account dictated to her in a whisper. Of course it sounds fabulous, if not fantastic, but such is the fable. I didn't invent it.

STEP 3 - You can spit in my face, or kick me painfully, but what I am about to say IS the TRUTH. Only the support service can really help you in this situation, but without a sales receipt this option becomes difficult. A locked iPhone may remain locked forever.

  • How I called and communicated with Apple Russia technical support -

Of course, you can follow the scammers’ lead and transfer 1,500 rubles to an unknown destination. But where is the guarantee that they will help you? They actually screwed you over once already.

Real stories of real people

Anna
Hello, we found ourselves in a situation with scammers (we blocked our iPhone and demanded 1500 rubles) and your post helped a lot! The first thing we did was recover the password in Icloud by answering security questions and registering a backup one. mailing address. Secondly, we called the support phone number in Russia, but the phone number is +7 495 580 95 57, there very polite girls explained to us step by step what and how to do and…. voila...the phone is unlocked and working! so thank God the scammers screwed us over.

Mark
The phone was also hacked and blocked via Fined my phone. I thought everything, but I contacted the support service via chat (I’m from Ukraine), and they responded in 20-30 minutes. The first step was to restore the mail and remove the filters that the scammers had installed in the mail. Then I restored iCloud, deleted the phone from iCloud, and checked whether activation was disabled (with the phone turned off). Then I went into DFU mode, connected to the latest iTunes, downloaded the firmware, installed it as new phone(with enabled DFU mode) and voila, the phone is like new. The truth was for my benefit backup copy, so I recovered from it without problems. And the support service advised using apple id with domain.com

Alexander
Yesterday I encountered this situation. The attacker somehow found out the Apple ID and gained access to the account (it was not reported to anyone), and then, as described, it was blocked and a message with an email appeared on the screen. No money was paid, the problem was solved as follows.
1. Restored access to email (in our case mail.ru). The email is linked to the phone number, we were able to restore it without any problems. Changed the password.
2. Via email, we regained control of the Apple ID, changed the password, and turned off the lost phone mode.
3. Reset via iTunes.

These are the kinds of stories that happen. I do not claim to be an “expert” or some kind of “guru”, so I could be wrong on any issue.

If your Apple ID was also hacked on your phone and you know how to solve this problem, write in the comments below. Well, if the article was useful, give me a like... Thank you!

note

It is a tragedy for the owner not only because this smartphone is quite expensive, but also for another reason: according to surveys, 70% of owners of Apple gadgets store important information on their mobile devices, both personal and necessary for work and business. If a manager loses his iPhone (along with his notes, by email and tables), this can “slow down” the work of his organization for several days.

Fortunately, there is a chance to find the gadget. People who have lost their iPhone or iPad should put aside self-flagellation and self-pity “for later” and first take the measures described in this article. Even if discovered lost iPhone If these measures fail, it will be possible to delete the data stored in the device's memory to prevent it from falling into the hands of ordinary people or, much worse, business competitors.

There are several steps to take straightaway after discovering the loss of the iPhone. If the smartphone was found by a respectable person, there is a high probability that these simple measures will yield results:

Call your number. Use the phone of a friend or work colleague for this. If you left the device on the street, the call will attract the attention of a passerby, who will be able to give you the find for a modest reward. If you don’t have a phone at hand from which you can make a call, use the “almighty” Internet - for example, from the website www.iCantFindMyPhone.com you can call any number. If the call does not yield results, proceed to further actions.

Temporarily block your SIM card. It's not even necessary for this personally come to the service office mobile operator- just call the number hotline and give your passport details. This measure will help protect against a significant minus on your account.

Change passwords via computer. The iPhone stores in its memory all the passwords you specified. If you, say, regularly transfer money via iPhone to Personal Account"Sberbank-Online", then the loss of the device may well put your well-being at risk. If an attacker gains access to your page, it will threaten your reputation.

Take preventive measures to avoid being in a situation where all your passwords end up in the hands of an attacker. Use a password manager with one master code, which a person who accidentally finds the gadget will definitely not be able to recognize. Password managers for iPhone (and not only) are discussed.

Think about where you've been recently and where you might have lost your device.. Let's say, if you used a taxi service, you can dial an operator who will connect you personally with your driver. You can ask the driver if he found the iPhone.

Is it possible to find an iPhone by IMEI?

Finding out the IMEI of an Apple device is easy: just dial *#06#, and the number will appear on the screen.

What can't you do if Find My iPhone is turned on?

Having reported the loss of an iPhone to the police, the user will probably be faced with a requirement to turn off “ Lost Mode"so that law enforcement agencies can track the location of the device by IMEI.

If you have a security password set on your smartphone, you can disable “Lost Mode” at the request of the police - the password is quite reliable protection.

Only an Apple pro will be able to reset it - the likelihood that the finder is an advanced user is very small.

If the police ask you to erase your iPhone and remove yourself from iCloud account, under no circumstances should their request be fulfilled. The security password will be reset after erasing, which means that the person who discovered the iPhone will will be able to fully use the device. The owner can only hope for the efficiency of the police, who, alas, do not prioritize cases of missing phones.

Applications to help you find your iPhone

Not only the built-in functions of the device can help you find a gadget, but also third party applications, available in the AppStore for free or for a reasonable fee. Such programs include:

Contact If Found

The application makes it possible to create a desktop screensaver with the owner’s contact information. This program is free, but can only be installed on smartphones with iOS version 8 and higher.

iHound.

Program " iHound"-"personal detective" of the iPhone owner. As soon as the lost gadget is connected to the PC, Mailbox The owner will receive a letter indicating the exact address where the device is located. Thus, the owner can prevent the software of his smartphone from being changed by “computer craftsmen.” Also " iHound» periodically records the location of the gadget for preventive purposes - this means that the owner will be able to find out not only Where now the device remains, but also How it got there (for this you will have to use Facebook or Twitter).

Reward If Found

The program will allow you to create a colorful screensaver with the owner’s contact information. As soon as the person who found the iPhone turns on the device, he will see something like this:

The program is paid, but its cost is low - only 75 rubles.

iLocalis

iLocalis is an application only available for jailbroken iPhones (in Cydia). Its functionality is quite wide: for example, using “ iLocalis» you can find out new number, if the SIM card in the smartphone has been changed.

Conclusion

Increasing the security of device owners is a trend that is gaining momentum. It is known that Apple engineers are developing a project for a “zombie mode” of the iPhone - a gadget in this state will be able to transmit location information to the owner even when turned off. However, for now, users of Apple gadgets have to be content with the “ Find iPhone”, which, alas, does not always bring results.

What to do if your iPhone or iPad is stolen or the device is lost? The first and main action is to remotely block the gadget, which will not only prevent the use of the device by third parties, but will also contribute to the return of the lost item. How to lock an iPhone or iPad in case of loss or theft, as well as the settings without which remote locking is impossible, is described in detail in this guide.

Let's first consider next option: Your iPhone or iPad has not yet been stolen/lost (hopefully it will remain so), but you are worried that such a situation is possible. It is necessary to understand that protective systems Apple allowing detection or remote blocking mobile device, only work if they are active. It turns out that if the “Find iPhone” function on your smartphone or tablet is not activated, then finding the device will be extremely problematic.

Therefore, without waiting for any emergencies with your iPhone or iPad, we do the following.

How to Remotely Lock a Stolen or Lost iPhone or iPad

Step 7. About success iPhone translation or iPad in lost mode will be indicated by a message in the upper left corner of the device window.

The device itself will be instantly locked after being put into lost mode. The display will begin to show the message and phone number you specified.

When trying to withdraw iPhone lock or iPad will prompt you to enter a six-digit password.

Until the correct password is provided, the iPhone or iPad will continue to remain in a locked state. Remove the lock by flashing it, even through
