If the monitor does not show an image when you turn on the computer, do not rush to take it in for repair. First, you need to check the cable that goes from the monitor to the computer. It could simply fly out or come out of the connector. Secondly, you should check the video card, namely, whether it has come out of the motherboard slot (this happens when the cable from the monitor is pulled). If this does not help, then you should take a similar video card from your neighbor (look at the AGP or PCI-E connector). Install the video card and check the result. If the image appears, the problem is in the video adapter. If not, then you should make a more complete diagnosis and call a computer technician to your home. However, sometimes independent actions help to successfully fix the problem, but in the example below everything turned out to be much worse.

Reported malfunction: black screen when turning on the computer, no image on the monitor when turning on.

Diagnostics, fault detection:

I disconnect the monitor cable from the video card. No signal appears on the screen. From this it follows that the monitor is working. There are 2 outputs on the video card, I check each of them, change the cable, adapters - the result is zero. The motherboard also had a built-in video adapter, I connect the monitor to it - there is no image. I remove the computer cover: no visual defects are detected, no dust (almost), no burning smell. I remove the battery from the motherboard (BIOS reset), disconnect the hard drive, CD drive, and card reader. I take out the Geforce 9600gt 1gb PCI-E video card. Initial inspection: no burning smell, capacitors are not swollen, no mechanical damage was detected. I'm installing my video card. I take out the RAM modules and install my own - no image.

Conclusion: suspicion of a malfunction in the motherboard/possibly processor. It requires complete disassembly of the computer, installation of another motherboard and processor, power supply (to identify faulty elements). The system unit is being repaired.

Full diagnostics: we disassemble the computer, disconnect all cables and power from the motherboard, remove the power supply, remove the video card, remove the RAM modules, remove the motherboard, remove the processor.

Microstar motherboard (model not rewritten) Socket775. There were swollen capacitors under the processor, some of them were already leaking. You need to buy and solder about 15 capacitors. One new capacitor costs about 40 rubles (I don’t have any old ones). We make an approximate calculation of costs: 15 * 40 = 600 rubles, but they still need to be found and purchased, we add delivery of 400 rubles. I'm not taking soldering into account yet. Total approximately 1000 rubles.

The board is 3 years old, a budget option, according to reviews there are a lot of defects. It is impossible to guarantee that after resoldering the capacitors the board will be 100% working; other elements may also have failed. I agree with the customer and purchase a new board.

There is no image on the monitor - solution to the problem: purchasing and installing a new motherboard (2000 rubles), assembling the computer, reinstalling windows (since the old system will not boot with the new board), installing drivers, installing free software, delivering the computer to the client.
